Abbazia winery is located in Santo Stefano Belbo, a small village amidst Monferrato, Langhe and Roero district, strategically a top area for growing grapes in Piedmont, listed since 2014 in the Unesco World Heritage List. The breathtaking landscape offers a patchwork of endless glimpses of the hills. This winery is an important witness to history and culture, and still a family-owned business proudly guided by the Santero family, passionate growers and winemakers along the years. Abbazia Winery works approximately 2.000 tons of grape per year of which 750 tons. Are grown on the family-owned land consisting in '148 acres of vineyards. The winery is a proud member of the Prosecco DOC and Asti Docg consortiums and has got quality certified production process, by the B.R C and I.F.S. certification bodies.
The Abbey became a center of politics, religion and culture. The name of the winery comes precisely from the ancient Benedictine monastery dedicated to St. Gaudenzio, built on the foundations of a Roman temple dating back to the ninth century. Inside the abbey you can see the most ancient bas-reliefs of southern Piedmont depicting mythological animals and representations of the first crops of Muscat.
