Mauro Veglio started in the small town of La Morra in the 1960s. Its founder Angelo bought the first vineyard in Gattera, which belongs to the Barolo region, where the winery now produces BarologatteraDOCG.
In 1986, 25-year-old Mauro took over the winery after his father fell ill. After the winery and farmhouse were restored, the vineyard was renovated. This was a risky few years. Barolo's brewers began to exchange ideas, techniques and equipments, which promoted the innovation of Barolo's brewing process. Barolo wine is no longer rough and poor, but clean and easy to drink, with more polyphenol extracts and using a certain standard amount of small barrels.
In 2017, Mauro announced that his winery was merged with the winery of his nephew Alexander (AlessandroVeglio). Mauro wants to bring fresh blood to his winery and maintain the "family-run business" model of Mauro Veglio Winery.
The annual output of the winery is 120,000 bottles and the vineyard has 19 hectares, distributed in the three well-known villages of Barolo, LaMorra, Monforted' Alba and Barolo. We have five Barolo fields: Arborina, Gattera, Rocchedell'Annunziata, Castelletto, Paiagallo. In addition to Barolo, we also make other local Langhe red wines: Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto d'Alba. The winery follows the rules of nature to cultivate grapes, respects the environment, and treats the vines to a minimum. We firmly believe in the importance of vines and vineyards, and respect for the environment, vines and the people who work with us are the reasons for the excellent quality of our wines.
